In another development in the ongoing Uber workers’ rights saga, the taxi app has responded to criticism over excessive working hours by introducing a mandatory six-hour break for drivers who have worked for ten hours. According to official figures released last week, the government's new apprenticeship levy is yet to increase the number of people being trained. There were 114,000 apprenticeship starts reported so far for the first quarter of the 2017-18 academic year, compared with 155,600 for the same period in the previous academic year, a fall of 27%.
